We’ve all hear the phrase “Anticipation is half the fun”. I don’t know where that came from, but I believe it’s true.
As we plan for an upcoming adventure, I’m researching activities, the surrounding areas, the weather, and of course the food! I’ve got my handy and very extensive packing checklist so hopefully I don’t forget anything. And of course I will have my travel journal and my camera at hand to record the journey.
What’s hard for me to remember, is that things don’t have to be perfect to have a perfect vacation. I will never look the way I want to, something unexpected may happen that we will have to deal with, there can be delays or hold ups along the way. And I might even forget something important. I need to go with the flow, value each opportunity and experience, and have a positive attitude. And be spontaneous. Who knows what amazing venture may await us!
I love this quote by Mark Twain and have it up on my wall at work as a reminder:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.”
Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.
