What makes your day?

Is it a beautiful sunrise with the sun streaming through the window to brighten your home?
Is it a morning walk with a treasured family dog?

Maybe it’s a fun surprise discovered on your desk at work when you arrive, or your boss greeting you and thanking you being there for her.

Some people may answer “getting a raise”, “winning the lottery” or “being able to quit work and retire”. Sure, any of these would make my day too!

Are we so focused on those big hefty goals (or life’s impossibilities) that we miss the little things that can simply Make Our Day?

Yesterday I went out on my weekend walk, early in the morning. It was hot and sticky out. On my way I was able to see the sun peeking through a cloud, just rising over the mountain top. Beautiful!

There is something about the early morning, the quiet and emptiness on the streets and in the park, that gives me calm.

I love my mornings unrushed. I like to get my focus, find my peace, and prepare for my day.

And what makes my day? My sunny mornings, a delicious breakfast, a happy greeting from a co-worker, a hug from my husband.

And what really gives me that happy day rush? Being able to make someone else’s day! Solving a problem, resolving an issue, seeing the stress drain away, replaced by a smile. When I’m able to eliminate a stressful situation in another’s life, their “thank you” and maybe a hug of gratitude, is all I need to keep on going.

Today, look for the small pleasures in life, see a smile of happiness or gratitude in someone else, and let it Make Your Day!
