Just a tad bit north of San Luis Obispo, on the California Coast, is the quiet and most beautiful little town of Morro Bay, CA. This small town was recommended to us by a friend on our recent road trip up Highway 1. Although it was not on our agenda, we made adjustments and made it one of our stops. No regrets. It was such a peaceful and secluded ocean town.
As we did along the way, we used our map app, did a search, read a couple of reviews, and followed our hunch on a hotel that sounded intriguing. 456 Embarcadero Inn and Suites was absolutely lovely with a beautiful view, nice amenities and described itself as a boutique hotel. To me, it fit the bill.
Based on a recommendation from another friend, we walked to the end of the single waterfront road and had a wonderful dinner looking out at the water at Tognazzini’s Dockside. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
On the walk back we passed by the Sea otter nursing zone! Super cute, but not real easy to get any good photos because they were so far away. I had only brought my pocket camera on our walk. I learned my lesson 🙂
It was a beautiful evening and such a lovely walk along the waterfront.
The key focal point is Morro Rock. You can see it in the distance, in the photos below:
The sunset was beautiful from our balcony.
The next morning we drove down to Morro Rock at Morro Bay State Park.
We found this little guy alone on the rocks:
As we were getting ready to leave we found more otters! But, because they float so flat in the water, it’s real hard to see them. They were still very cute ♥
We took a moment to stop for some final photos of a very beautiful town and a memorable stay.
I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads. Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it.

The traveler was active; he went strenuously in search of people, of adventure, of experience. The tourist is passive; he expects interesting things to happen to him. He goes ‘sight-seeing.’
