Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #112 – Pick a Word…

Yesterday afternoon we noticed this hawk simply standing in the birdbath, cooling his toes. He appeared relaxed and comfortable just watching the yard activity. Which, by the way, was minimal since no finch was going to be joining the hawk for a swim 😉

He was there for over an hour! I snapped a few photos from the corner of my bedroom window, being careful not disturb him.

Soon after he took off the regular yard visitors reappeared.

Great portrait! Those birds of prey always look so safe and secure – you really caught the feeling. Quote very fitting.

They do indeed – it is something about their eyes. The sharp focus.

Wow, an hour in one spot is so unusual unless it’s high in a protected tree. He (or she) must have been VERY comfortable sitting in your yard!

    1. I did not know that! We were surprised and kept peeking out at him. The water was not cool, it was a hot day, but he must have liked it some how. Thanks for the info!

I had one do the same thing in our backyard recently. You really got some great shots! Looks like a sharp-shinned hawk or a Cooper’s hawk.

    1. Thank you! I think it’s a Cooper’s hawk since they are pretty common in the area. But rarely at our birdbath!
