This week’s Lens-Artists challenge “negative space” got me to thinking, and helped me to see a few photos differently. I went through some of my old photos and also took a second look at my recent photos.

This one from yesterday is tucked in the shadows so the white flower really stands out. This one is surrounded by a lot of black negative space.
I took this photo early in the year, the background is blurred and not a key area of focus, drawing your eyes to the flower. In this one the negative space is more vivid, but blurred.
Another spring photo below. This is a very tiny ground cover flower. I took this with my macro lens close to the ground, surrounded by very dark negative space.
This photo is from last week and we see these birds all over. I looked it up and he is a Great-tailed Grackle. Although he is sometimes referred to as a blackbird, he is not of the blackbird genus. He really is quite beautiful and you can see all the negative space around him in the blue sky.
I took this one this morning and because the background is blurred and not real vivid, the bee is highlighted and it clearly draws focus to the bee and flower.
This one is also from this morning. The background is very blurred, directing the eyes to the bees and flowers.

Thank you Amy! I don’t know if I’ve heard this term before, so now I have a new way to look at photos. I liked this challenge! And also thank you for the compliments. When I took that white flower photo yesterday I knew I had to do this challenge 😊

These are terrific Lisa – I loved your flower images, especially the first. My favorite tho was the blackbird. SO clear and sharp!
