Meet the Queen

Yes, this beautiful caterpillar will blossom into the queen butterfly (Danaus gilippus)!

I have many photos of The Queen. How awesome to discover the queen butterfly caterpillar Sunday morning on my walk. I took a few extra minutes to walk through the “butterfly garden” at our nature preserve down the road, and I made this discovery. All while enjoying the many flutterings of butterflys.

All of our rains have not only sprouted a multitude of flowers and blossoms, but it has awakened the amazing butterflies! To stand amongst hundred of fluttering butterflies is just magical! (but very hard to photograph…I tried)

Below are two photos of the queen butterfly from a couple of weeks ago:

Adding wings to caterpillars does not create butterflies. It creates awkward and dysfunctional caterpillars. Butterflies are created through transformation.

Fabulous photos – the caterpillar in particular is so striking! I also really like that quote and wish I’d come across it years ago as I could have used it in my consultancy work 😀

How amazing that you caught both the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of that beautiful caterpillar and butterfly. I love both of them.
