Abert’s Towhee

His name commemorates the American ornithologist James William Abert (1820-1897).

And what is an ornithologist, I asked myself? Wikipedia says: Ornithology is a branch of zoology that concerns the “methodological study and consequent knowledge of birds with all that relates to them.”

Wikipedia also says that Mr. Abert was an American Soldier. God bless him!

I think this little towhee was not happy that I interrupted his morning snack time on the ground below the fencing. He’s not really happy looking, do you think? 😊

I think we consider too much the good luck of the early bird and not enough the bad luck of the early worm.

Educational, with awesome photography, as always, Lisa. The little bird looks like they are hungry. Looking for food…

What a cute photo! He did look quite unhappy. And your FDR quote brought up a new thought about the early worm.

    1. Yes, I disturbed him when I walked up, and was able to get this quick photo of him on the fence. No worms though, I think he was eating seeds. 😊
