This weekend I was looking through some older photos from when I first got my new camera. I found these sweet hummingbird photos, but the bird was in the bush, shadowed, and a bit blurred.
When I read Nancy’s (Nancy Merrill Photography) newest photo challenge “Faded” these photos came to mind, as they had a soft blurred and faded look.
I brought them up in Lightroom and played around with the editing a bit more. I discovered the “soft mist” preset softened the background even more (I had done a touch of editing, to try and bring out the little bird from the darkness). It also seems to better highlight the tiny beautiful hummingbird.
What do you think?
These are both softened, but I love these, swipe and see his little tongue:

You can see how the hummer seems to stand out when you look at the softer version:

And finally, using my featured image up top, take a look at the difference the softening made:

Yes, the softening is a definite improvement 🙂 It just goes to show that we need to be careful before dismissing photos we think haven’t worked too well!

Thank you, so do I! We stayed at my parents for a few months a couple of years ago. They had a hummingbird feeder that brought a lot of birds and I loved practicing my bird photography on the little hummingbirds! 😊
