This morning I realized I need to be more prepared for the unexpected. Learn to know where to focus if I want to take full advantage of surprise photo opportunities.
But hey, what a cool experience when I turned the corner to see these little cuties looking right at me!

I snapped a few photos as he and his buddy scurried around the path for a bit, then ran off into the watery reeds. This one wasn’t quite sure what to think of me…

Once they were gone I turned to my right to continue on my walk and WOW! This beauty was looking right back at me!

Yip, messed up that photo opp. He came out blurry 😕
Ok, so I followed behind him on the path…

Around the corner…
…and DO YOU SEE IT?

Wait, does HE see it?!!

HA! Now he does! Guess he decided to change directions!
He zipped right past me, didn’t even stop to say good morning 😊

I snapped a quick farewell photo as he dashed into the bushes behind me…

It got a little exciting for a bit as I wasn’t quite sure what to do next. Javelina can be a bit feisty and I know I don’t want to reckon with them either. But I didn’t want to miss the show so I stepped back and snapped away…

A minute or two later, I saw another photographer nearby and made him aware. He joined me and was a bit braver. The small herd of javelina actually did some scuttling around, being a bit aggressive to one another. They eventually passed right by that gentleman without giving him a second thought! I was just a few feet off to the side and snapped a few more shots.
Such an opportunity to see the mama and babies close up! …all muddy paws, noses and all 💙

These two appeared to be fighting when they came out, but maybe not…

And finally, they scurried into the bushes. I discovered the herd again in the open clearing. Calm and happily munching away…

PS: In the feature photo, he is actually yawning! He is not snarling at anyone 😊 However, you can see the teeth that no one wants to tangle with!
HAPPY WEEKEND!

So very cool, Lisa! I am so happy you share your experiences with all of us😊

Thank you Donna! Yes, javelina are like wild boar or pigs. I think they are more specific to the warmer desert type areas.

Thank you Anita, it was quite exciting! I just love to see any animals out in nature. Even snakes and bugs as long as I don’t step on them!

Wow, some wonderful surprise animal encounters, beautifully captured! I love the cat – I assume some sort of wild cat? And I’ve never even heard of javelinas but they look like some sort of boar?

Thank you Sarah! The cat is a bobcat, and the javelinas are like a wild pig or boar. They survive well in the desert environment.
