Yesterday morning on my walk, this beauty caught my eye. Upon further examination I realized, he just hatched! This is the first time I’ve seen a newly hatched dragonfly!

Based on an article from www.british-dragonflies.org, it takes one to three hours for the entire process.
You can see in the photos below the shell underneath him.
I do wish I had noticed him as I started my walk, I could have seen the changes that occurred while I was there. But I am grateful I didn’t miss him as I was leaving to head home!


This newborn dragonfly will blossom into the colorful flame skimmer (also called firecracker skimmer) below. I took these photos back in 2020 but they show the beautiful fully developed flame skimmer.
