Oh baby, where does it hurt?

The hardest part is not really knowing…

For many weeks, we have noticed our sweet kitty’s right eye watering off and on. However, we assumed it was some kind of allergy. Then, three weeks ago, I noticed she didn’t open her eye all the way, and I determined we needed to get her into the vet. Sadly, my husband realized that her cheek looked swollen around her eye, and that’s when the worry began.

Being a Saturday, we had to wait until Monday to call the vet, and they could not get her in until Wednesday. Wednesday finally came and the diagnosis was an abscess tooth. The soonest they could schedule her was for the following Thursday. We left with antibiotic pills and pain liquid.

We learned neither was easy to administer. In fact, we doubt she swallowed any of the pain liquid. Fortunately, we were able to get her in on Friday for a three-day pain shot. And another one, and another one…

The hard thing is not knowing if she hurts. The past weeks have been extremely stressful.

The saddest part is that when they went in to do the procedure (a day early due to a cancellation) it was discovered that her infection was so bad that it pushed out her cheek bone and did bone damage. She will experience some bone pain for the rest of her sweet life. The vet dentist assured me she will feel so much better, and some mild pain drops ever few days will help alleviate the pain.

We had a weekend away planned which added to the stress. The vet said no worries, we could let my parents watch her. We are grateful that went fine, and I relaxed by the pool at a resort next to the golf course my husband was volunteering at. He is a golf official and will volunteer at a variety of amateur golf tournaments around the area.

Upon our return, because she still was not eating enough, I called and got her in for a follow up appointment. We learned she had a small infection, and she needed more antibiotics. Oh yes, and another pain shot.

Again, we were assured she would soon enjoy a good quality of life as she continues to heal. Fortunately, she does seem to be feeling better and eating more yesterday and today.

My kitty, “Precious”, is about 15 years old. We know her time with us is limited. But we will do our best to give her a comfortable happy life for as long as we can. It’s the least we can do for the years of companionship and love she has given us. To us, she is precious ❤

Happiness is like a cat, If you try to coax it or call it, it will avoid you; it will never come. But if you pay not attention to it and go about your business, you’ll find it rubbing against your legs and jumping into your lap.

  1. Poor kitty, she must have been very uncomfortable and we hope the meds will help her. If your vets practice is an integrated one, it might be worth asking about acupuncture to complement her other treatment. Sending love and light and please give sweet Precious a gentle pat from us all 💕🐈 xxx

I’m so sorry you and your sweet kitty have had to go through this. With all the fur, it’s not easy to see what’s going on underneath. It’s good to hear that she’s getting better.

    1. Thank you so much! Yes, her fur kind of hides it. It’s been an experience. But I am staying hopeful and see improvements, finally!

    1. Thank you, Nora, we do too. I’m still not 100% sure she’s going to make it through, but we’ll know more after Wednesday morning’s vet visit. Some days she doesn’t eat much 😢
