Dragonfly: continued learning

Today I captured at least two new-to-me dragonfly species! Keeping an open mind and a watchful eye, I continue to improve my ability to spot new dragonfly friends.

Red Saddlebags:
Look closely at the base of the wings and you will see the connection to the name. He appears to be carrying saddlebags when flying.

Common Green Darner:
Named after it’s resemblance to a darning-needle. One of the most common and abundant species throughout North America. He was buzzing around me for quite some time on my walk. I attempted to snap a photo while hovering, but failed. I was extremely pleased to be able to get a photo of him perched on the cattail plant:
