Western Diamondback Rattlesnake!

Interesting Facts:
- The rattle of the rattlesnake is made up of a protein called keratin (the same protein that your hair and fingernails are made of). A new segment is added each time a rattlesnake sheds, but they can shed at different rates. Because of this, and the fact that segments can break off, you really can’t tell a snakes age by counting the segments.
- A rattlesnake can move its rattle back and forth 60 or more times per second.
- This snake ranges in size from 3 to 5 feet long with a few reaching 7 feet long.
- These snakes can live approximately 15-20 years in captivity.

No alligators! I almost walked right past this guy! He didn’t seem concerned at all. I did back off, zoomed in and shot a few photos. He did not rattle so I know I didn’t startle him. But he startled me!! 😱😲

I like snakes but would be wary of a rattler as I don’t have enough experience of them to know what to do around him!

All I know is to beware of the rattle! He was not coiled, and was not rattling, so I wasn’t too freaked out. But I need to watch where I step!

Oh My Goodness… I have seen many Diamondbacks because I live in the Sonoran Desert of AZ… but I never got to hear the rattle. Wow!

We are so blessed. We purchased my childhood home, from my siblings, here in Pennsylvania which is close to a lovely lake. (They wanted to sell so we decided to purchase it!) My siblings are so happy we did. Every summer we have fun fixing it up but still keeping the vintage feel.
