Lens Artists Photo Challenge #78 – Special Spot Shots: Antigua

When I noticed this next Lens Artist challenge, Special Spot Shots, I got excited! Special photos are awesome. They bring back warm memories and make me smile.

Here is my short story:

As I was getting ready to turn 50, six years ago (yikes!), I planned my own celebration that took us to our first visit to Sandals Resort, in Antigua (West Indies). We had stopped in Antigua on a cruise (oh, also my birthday celebration 😊) and I loved it. This was our opportunity to explore the island a bit more.

Needless to say, we loved Sandals! We loved it so much that when I asked my husband what he would like to do to celebrate his retirement, he chose Sandals Resorts 😁 We chose a closer location, the resort in the Bahamas (post here), and celebrated early last year. We very much enjoyed both locations, but overall, we both agreed Antigua was our favorite.

Let me give you a photo tour of one of our favorite places:

Entrance to our Butler’s Suite (without the butler). They upgraded us, partly, I believe, because a storm on the East Coast prohibited travel from the Northeast US. I think celebrating my special birthday may have helped 😁

Although we did not have a view of the ocean, we were just a few steps away, and had this awesome pool and Jacuzzi all to ourselves!

We took an awesome island tour, just us and the driver. He took us all around the island as well as a stop for some fresh pineapple 🍍

Dinner, outdoors, at one of the restaurants. All of the food was delicious! And by the end I just ordered every desert they offered (the servings were small 😁).

This was my favorite place to eat. In the sand, with a great view of the water.

This resort had a wonderful long beach that allowed for relaxing, leisurely walks.

They were always setting up tables for special events. We were there over Valentine’d Day, romance was everywhere 😍

We had a few clouds, but overall, it was sunny most of the time. What a perfect place to eat breakfast!

This was the view I had booked. Absolutely beautiful! But not as luxurious as our suite.

We took a boat tour of the island, which included swimming with the stingrays!

Below is a video I took while there. Every night we heard, what we discovered to be frogs. I was never able to actually find any, but we sure heard them. When I listen to these little frogs, it takes me back…

We hope to go back one more time. Perhaps to celebrate my 60th birthday! Yes, I love to celebrate, and my loving husband, he is always happy to come along for the ride!
