Our recent weekend away took us to Wild Horse Pass in Phoenix, AZ. My husband volunteered at a youth golf tournament, and with the beautiful photos online beckoning me, I offered to join him if we could stay at the resort next door. The Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass did not disappoint. Their walking path, nature hike, views and pool were the getaway I longed for.
But I know you are wondering… are there wild horses at Wild Horse Pass? Yes! In fact, I’m told there are as many as 1500 wild horses roaming free across the lands of the Gila River Indian Community. There is an Equestrian Center at Wild Horse Pass and they bring horses over to the resort for people to interact with. When talking with the handler (and his horse, Big Jake), he said he could almost guarantee we’d see wild horses when out on a horseback riding adventure. This is something I may have taken advantage of if the heat had not been so intense.
There is a small river that runs through the resort and out along the golf course. There is also a beautiful 2.5 mile (round trip) walking interpretive trail that takes you along the little river. There are signs with information about the plants in the area as well as information about the Gila River community and some cultural information on the Pima and Maricopa Tribes.
I enjoyed the morning walks, photo opportunities, and even some wildlife sightings! The first night we were there, we were out on a short walk and saw what appeared to be bobcat siblings! Sadly, I wasn’t able to capture a photo, but I did run into some excitement on my second morning walk. 😁
Below are several photos of the area. Just looking at them brings back peace and calm to my heart!
Below is what I saw off to my left as I headed out around the back of the hotel to the hiking path:

The beautiful pool with the golf course view!

Dragonflies were all over the place along the water:

Below is the friend I met along the path! One of the photos below shows his bulging tummy. I believe he was resting after enjoying breakfast. He was very calm and relaxed. He also blended in well with the brush along the path.

I was obsessed with the water lilies, they were beautiful!

Incredible photography!
